Objective 4: Learning Outcomes

Project Plans - Learning Outcomes

1. Outcome: College will conduct a thorough assessment of current programs to determine extent to which learning outcomes are currently in use and effectiveness of such programs.

Activities
1a. Institutional Research office will conduct departmental interviews with faculty. 
Timeline: Spring- Summer 1997 (Completed) Analysis

1b. Institutional Research will publish Program Assessment: A Case Study Approach *
Timeline: Fall 1997 (Completed) 
Facilitator: Craig Taylor 

2. Outcome: College will design a framework for learning outcomes for the institution. 

Activities
2a. Institutional Research will publish a Comprehensive Assessment Profile
Timeline: Spring 1997 (Completed) 
Facilitator: Craig Taylor, Assessment Team 

2b. Institutional Research will provide program reporting tools on its website 
Timeline: October -December 2000 (Completed) 
Facilitator: Mary Brau 

3. Outcome: College will agree on a variety of appropriate assessment processes faculty can use to measure learning achieved. 

Activities
3a. Convene faculty teams to explore assessment options for each outcome and identify specific assessment tools to be used 
Timeline: September 1999- June 2001  (Completed)
Facilitator: Mary Brau and SLI Assessment Coaching Team 

4. Outcome: College will apply an outcomes-based process to general education programs. 

Activities
4a. Provide multiple opportunities for stakeholders to review and revise the draft general education outcomes prepared by Degree Requirements Review Committee in Spring 2000 
Timeline: October 2000-January 2001 and annual review thereafter (Completed) 
Facilitator: Mary Brau, Degree Requirements Review Committee, Faculty Council 

4b. Conduct a campus-wide vote to ratify revised general education outcomes
Timeline: February 2001 (Completed) 
Facilitator: Mary Brau, Degree Requirements Review Committee, Faculty Council 

5. Outcome: College will apply an outcomes-based process to degree and certificate programs. 

Activities
5a. Conduct program-by-program reporting of program goals, assessment tools, learning assessment results, and analysis for curricular change (In process) 
Timeline: October 2000-January 2002 and annual review thereafter 
Facilitator: Mary Brau, program coordinators of professional/technical degrees and certificates 

5b. Conduct graduate assessment of general education core abilities *
Timeline: March-June 2002 [Completed] and annual review thereafter 
Facilitator: Craig Taylor, Mary Brau

6. Outcome: College will make assessment a part of learning scholarship among faculty. (Not completed)
