Comprehensive Assessment Profile

Lane Assessment Mission

To assist the college community in developing, implementing and refining a comprehensive assessment program.

Definition

Educational Assessment: a systematic inquiry into student learning and other results of the educational process for
improvement and reporting purposes.

Philosophy

Our premise is that assessment should, first and foremost, be useful to Lane Community College and should help individual academic units:

  •      improve teaching and learning,
  •      evaluate curricula,
  •      plan improvement where necessary, and
  •      evaluate the effects of the changes.

Assessment Arenas

  • Classroom: assessment that focuses on learning in an individual course.
  • Series or Linked Classroom: assessment that focuses on learning in a sequence of related courses or a group of related
  • courses.
  • Program or Departmental: assessment that focuses on a program, a group of programs, or an entire department.
  • Institutional: assessment that focuses on the college community's efforts to fulfill the mission of the institution.

Assessment Goals

To facilitate the efforts of the college community:

GOAL 1 in becoming involved in the process of assessment.

GOAL 2 by developing and maintaining comprehensive and integrated assessment activities.

GOAL 3 in strengthening student learning across the curriculum through the use of assessment.

GOAL 4 in meeting guidelines for current and future regional, state and federal reports.


Goal 1
  • To facilitate the efforts of the college community in becoming involved in the process of assessment.
Objectives (as in, something that one's efforts are intended to achieve):
  1. To enhance the college community's understanding of assessment.
  2. To guide the college community in developing a comprehensive and continuing assessment plan.
  3. To have resources available for use in assessment at the class, program and department levels.
  4. To consistently publicize available resources and contacts for planning, conducting and implementing assessment.
  5. To encourage incorporation of assessment compentencies into the job description for new faculty.
  6. To train assessment mentors to be available to assist in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of assessment plans.
Goal 2
  • To facilitate the efforts of the college community in developing and maintaining comprehensive and integrated assessment activities.
Objectives:
  1. To coordinate a comprehensive assessment plan.
  2. To implement assessment networks for information exchange.
  3. To establish processes that articulate with college contracts, policies, and procedures.
  4. To communicate and coordinate with groups working on student learning such as TTT, TIP and Professional Development.
  5. To have all departments/programs/clusters represented in the Comprehensive College Assessment Plan for Student Learning and Other Student Outcomes.
  6. To identify and facilitate collaborative assessment activities across the curriculum.
Goal 3
  • To facilitate the efforts of the college community in strengthening student learning across the curriculum through the use of assessment.
Objectives:
  • To enable members of the college community to consistently use assessment techniques and practices.
  • To apply local and national assessment research and techniques to effective teaching and learning.
  • To assist the faculty in using assessment techniques as both formative and evaluative learning tools.
  • To enable the faculty to articulate assessment techniques and practices.
Goal 4
  • To facilitate the efforts of the college community in meeting guidelines for current and future regional, state and federal reports.
Objectives:
  • To develop and implement an appropriate and comprehensive documentation system for assessment activities on campus.
  • To evaluate, revise, and maintain a documentation system for assessment activities on campus.
  • To keep the Assessment Team appraised of current assessment projects.
  • To obtain and use college wide data for development of the reports
