Y

years Use figures without commas. Use an s without an apostrophe to indicate spans of decades or centuries. Years do not have to be spelled out when they begin a sentence, like other numbers do, but are awkward so try to rewrite the sentence so the year is not the first thing. Use an en dash to indicate continuing or inclusive dates. Example: In 1989, the average increased to 4.5, it remained at 4.5 throughout the '90s, and from 2000–06 the rate was 5.1.
