Judith McKenzie Visits to ALS Programs at four community colleges to gather data. Research goals include methods being taught in ed/teacher cert programs and comprehensive lit survey of recent studies of the effectiveness of various pedagogies in grammar instruction.
Russell Shitabata Deepen understanding of the Japanese American experience in Hawaii in the 20th century combining oral history with study of manuscripts and primary source materials. Aim is to learn the social, economic, and cultural histories of Japanese Americans in Hawaii.
Susan Reddoor Identify appropriate uses of technology in development-level community college instruction, primarily in the contents areas of reading, writing, and study skills. Exam instructional technology innovations nationwide by attending two national level conferences, research best practices, and observe innovative technology practices at four community colleges.
Brian McGlynn Visit other colleges that teach aviation maintenance. Visit with college gather information that will be useful for our move to Eugene Airport. I will use my own truck and trailer and travel to Michigan Institute of Aviation Technology, Pittsburg Institute of Aeronautics, Aviation Institute of Maintenance, among others.
Annick Todd Identify the best uses of new technologies for optimizing language learning as a second language. Research will be conducted at Portland Community College, Clackamas CC, Portland State, Chemeketa CC, and Mt. Hood CC.Speak with professional contacts from TESOL programs such as Lelie Opp-Beckman and BillWalker at U of O.
Bren Tiel Update knowledge of current pediatric nursing in Northwest and better prepare students for NCLEX exam. Gather information on pediatric health promotion and commonly occurring health issues. Research literature and internet, current trends in preventing and treating reactive airway disease (asthma). Research through NIH and AAP the most current recommendations for prevention.
Carrie Newell The research addresses a key question in marine biology. How do the distribution patterns of prey organisms (mysids) influence the foraging success of the predators (gray whales)? Increase knowledge in the use of advanced analysis software through work with OSU oceanography researchers. Increase knowledge of statistical programs. Review recent marine biology papers.
Eliz VanderSchaaf Enhance existing knowledge and skills in art history and cultural history through in-depth research of the lives and careers of woman artists. Focus will be upon woman in the arts and "the history of art history" (how woman are presented in art historical scholarship).
Pam Dane Work on a book based upon Woman writers and artists. The working title is In their Own Words: Woman Artists and Writersv in Exile. Goal is to have a completed draft of four chapters. My sabbatical will improve my teaching as I address the issue of the rediscovery of woman artists and their lives. I will work with both primary and secondary sources from Beineke Library at Yale.
Thomas Blickle Observe multidisciplinary health care simulations in a nursing school lab setting. Simulation learning as it is evolving in health care education today involves students interacting with "patients" in a controlled lab setting rather than soley in the hospital. I would like to visit McGill University School of Nursing to study simulation multi-disciplinary learning and to study thye McGill education model.
Barbara DeFilippo Broaden my knowledge in area of psychology of human sexuality. Attend sessions at Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco. I will take five courses including the Wardell Pomeroy Lecture Series in Human Sexulaity. These specialty courses will allow me to approach Human Sexuality with an appreciation of ther diversity of attitudes and experiences in this area.
