Tracking SAGA Initiatives
CCSSE (Lane Results) - Now available! Extensive research has identified good educational practices that are directly related to retention and other desired student outcomes. The Community College Student Report, CCSSE’s survey instrument, builds on this research and asks students about their college experiences — how they spend their time; what they feel they have gained from their classes; how they assess their relationships and interactions with faculty, counselors, and peers; what kinds of work they are challenged to do; how the college supports their learning; and so on. Fall Kick-Off - Lane Community College hosted “Fall Kick Off”, designed to equip all students and their families with information and resources essential to life at Lane. Click the title to find out more. Fast Lane To Success - A new kind of learning community took off at Lane in Fall 2004. "Fast Lane to Success" is a Learning Community aimed at increasing first-year students' success in college and beyond. Two linked classes, "Effective Learning" and "College Success: On Course" teach effective study and learning skills, as well as empowerment strategies so students become responsible, self-motivated learners. "Fast Lane to Success" is developing and teaching the "On Course" curriculum developed by Skip Downing. It is a very powerful, positive, learner-centered curriculum that helps students learn to be in charge of their lives. One sign of the need for this learning community at Lane was its enrollment-it filled during early registration, and a large number of students tried to get into the class after it filled. Click here for information on assessing Fast Lane to Success and other Learning Communities at Lane. Instructors Judy McKenzie and Mary Parthemer will work with Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning to track the impact of "Fast Lane to Success" on students' success at Lane. They are committed to following these students until Fall 2005 to see how students do on success measures such as grade point averages, course completion rates, and persistence; they will also collect qualitative data from students. **( Requires Adobe Reader. ) |
