Sonya Christian, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the Honors Program Leadership Team and the Honors Program Core Group welcomed 30 faculty, staff, deans and directors on the last day of spring term to review Honors Program development, plans for the program's 2011-2012 inaugural year, and to share ideas for continued development.

Christian began the meeting by describing the what, why, how, who, and when of the program, emphasizing its foundation in the college's liberal education strategic direction, First Year Experience (Title III) programs, and learning communities.

Nadia Raza, Program Co-Coordinator, shared her research on honors programs and honors colleges and her vision for the program at Lane. She provided faculty interested in developing honors curriculum with Ken Bain's "What the Best College Teachers Do", and with a handout with reflection for honors level instruction.

Ce Rosenow, Program Co-Coordinator, reviewed the faculty and student application forms and processes, which have been through numerous iterations and reviews.

Group discussion was quite engaged and centered around topics of course and student assessment, registration and other logistics, workload and seniority, and division and discipline communication.
