What is the Lane Community College Honors Program?
The Honors Program provides a challenging and transformative student learning experience by offering honors courses and honors options in a variety of disciplines. Classes emphasize academic rigor, scholarly inquiry, creativity and independent thinking.

Who can take an honors course?
Any Lane Community College student can enroll in an honors course or request the honors option for courses designated as honors option classes. Admission into the Lane Community College Honors Program, however, requires a formal application

How can I be considered for the Honors Program?
- Complete a Lane admission online application
- Complete an Honors Program online application

- Demonstrate completion of or placement testing into WR 121 or higher.
- Meet any one of the following requirements:
- High school transcript with a minimum GPA of 3.25
- College transcript(s) with at least 15 quarter credits 12 semester credits and a minimum GPA of 3.25
- Evidence of two Lane honors courses with a minimum GPA of 3.00
- An SAT test report with a combined minimum score of 1200 for math and critical reading
- An ACT test report with a minimum score of 27
- Submit a confidential letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or college instructor addressing how you are prepared to undertake honors coursework

How do I complete the Honors Program?
Student who complete the Honors Program at Lane will:
- Successfully complete 24 honors credits with a grade of C or higher in each course and a cumulative GPA of 3.0
- As part of these 24 honors credits, complete two honors seminars: Special Topics 199 and 299
- Special Topics 199 introduces students to their Personal Learning Environment (PLE), including the creation of an e-portfolio that will present samples of their academic assignments and creative projects completed at Lane
- Special Topics 299 introduces students to research techniques across academic disciplines and prepares them for their honors coursework
- Complete a Capstone project

What is the difference between an honors course, an honors option class, and an honors seminar?
Each honors class falls into one of the following three catagories:
- honors courses: available to all student enrolled at Lane; each student in the course completes honors-level work
- honors options: available to all student enrolled at Lane; only students requesting the option complete honors-level work
- honors seminars: two seminars available only to students formally accepted into the Honors Program and required for successful completion of the program
Honors courses are designated in the class schedule with "_H" (such as PS297_H)

Do transfer credits count toward my Honors Program requirements?
Yes, honors courses taken at other colleges that are comparable to Lane honors courses will be accepted; however, you are required to complete at least 15 of your honors credits at Lane, including the two honors seminars (Special Topics 199 and 299)

Is Lane's Honors Program the same as Phi Theta Kappa?
The Honors Program is separate from Phi Theta Kappa and requires a separate application process. Phi Theta Kappa is an Honor Society and the Honors Program a track of academic study. To join Lane's Honors Program you need to meet the program requirements and apply by submitting an application. Both Phi Theta Kappa membership and Honors Program completion will be noted on a student's academic transcript.

When can I submit an Honors Program application?
Honors Program applications are accepted year-round. Applications are reviewed once per term with final acceptance by the 10th week of the term.
