Rose Boyer
AAOT, Psychology
Rose’s interest in psychology grew as she emerged from an abusive experience, and learned to question, think critically and set goals for herself. She is determined to become successful in the field of marriage and family therapy, and hopes to develop innovative programs for mental health. |

Jessica Myers
Nursing
Jessica spent seven years apprenticing with a midwife and has attended more than fifty births. During this time, she learned to appreciate the role a care provider plays in a woman’s life. Jessica plans to become a Registered Nurse specializing in women’s health. She would like to obtain a Master’s Degree in Nursing and work as either a Nurse Educator or Nurse Practitioner. |

Tyson Bumgardner
Flight Technology
Tyson joined the National Guard when he was seventeen. He was deployed for 29 months which included time spent serving in Iraq. He also helped with the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Tyson is completing an AAOT/Flight Technology degree at Lane, and is considering enrolling in the Aviation Leadership program at OSU. Tyson would like to eventually become a corporate pilot. |

Arturo Delgado
Auto Body
Arturo plans to complete his Auto Body degree and to continue his education in order to receive a degree in Business Management. When he was ten years old, he helped his father work on cars and this was the beginning of his desire to receive an education in the field of auto body and mechanics. He hopes to have his own automotive business in the future. |

Rocio Cervantes
Nursing
Rocio is taking the courses required for acceptance into the Nursing Program. Her goal is to become a bilingual nurse. “The most difficult situations I can recall were trips to the doctor’s office when I was unfamiliar with the language. Not understanding a word and seeing the needle coming towards me sparked a feeling of terror within me. The frustration I felt at not being able to understand or communicate led me to know in my heart I would grow up and make a difference.” |

April Miotke
Flight Technology
In addition to caring for her own four children while her husband was deployed in Afghanistan, April also was a foster parent for her niece and nephew. Now she is following her dream of becoming a Law Enforcement Helicopter Pilot. When April completes her program at Lane, she will continue her studies at Oregon State University and pursue a dual degree in Aviation Leadership and Adult Education. |

Deidre Blevins

Deidre’s short-term goal is to obtain employment as an administrative professional, and eventually she wants to work into a position on a management team involving electronic business and web development projects. She says, “Being a student at Lane has ignited a desire for life-long learning.” |

Lisa Cobian
P-T, Multimedia Design & Production
When Lisa was laid off from her job two years ago, she decided to build on the skills she had developed on her job as prepress technician to make herself more employable. She says her classes at Lane have been a confidence booster, and her fear about her future has been replaced by optimism. |

Vanessa Davis
AAOT, Psychology
Vanessa’s goal is to work with adolescents as a mental health specialist in the juvenile correctional field. Having overcome a troubled youth herself, she realizes the value of intervention for children struggling with problems. To give hope and be of service to youth is what she hopes to achieve with her education.

Beverly Einstein

Beverly has always been interested in caring for people. She is currently working on her nursing pre-requisites at Lane. Her long-term goal is to go on to a masters program to become a nursing instructor. For now, she is thankful that the Staton Scholarship is helping her to make a better life for her child. |

Becoming a nurse has been a life-long dream for Marsha. She is preparing herself for a B.A. in Nursing through her classes at Lane and working as a Certified Nurses Assistant at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Kristi believes that educators are a guiding force in the lives of young children. Kristi plans to use her knowledge of special learning needs in a career as an elementary teacher or librarian, where she can guide young children through life’s challenges, help them to believe in themselves, and become successful adults. |

Deeply impacted at age seven by her younger brother’s brain cancer, Trisha wants to become a Registered Nurse. Her interests lie in emergency care. She is a single mother who has worked as a Certified Nurses Assistant at McKenzie-Willamette Hospital. |

Darrell dreams of turning his creative skill and interest in custom automobiles into a car detail business. After obtaining his degree at Lane Community College, he hopes to provide an affordable service to others and continue his education. |

Trisha Marler

Trisha entered college while living in a van on the streets of Eugene. She enrolled in the culinary program because she loves to cook; now her interests center on the business aspects of the food industry. She hopes to work toward building self-sustaining living communities and supporting rural industry. |

Jeremiah Masters
P-T, Computer Programming
Jeremiah got interested in computer programming in high school when he learned to re-write the computer code of games. That led him to learn several computer languages. He is interested in computer engineering and animation and would like to program computer games of his own creation. |

Juan Jose Mora Flores
AAOT, Education
Juan Jose is the first member of his family to graduate from high school and attend college. He moved here with his family from Mexico when he was 10. He learned to speak and write in English with the help of English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers who so inspired him that his goal is to become an ESL teacher himself. |

Active in the community as well as in school, Tobias has a passion for sharing skills, and encouraging others to appreciate the wonder that is life. His academic interest dovetails with his desire to understand our ecosystems, ourselves, and the relation between the two. He hopes to use his education for positive change in the world. |

Now that her children are grown, Laura has set some goals for herself, which include graduating from Lane and going on to get a B.A. in Multimedia Production and Design. She also volunteers in the community because she loves “how it makes one feel to be needed, to make a difference.” |

Gustavo Ruiz

In 1989, Gustavo agreed to work while his wife completed her B.A. degree and pursue his educational goals later. Gustavo’s career goal is to work as an auto technician for a major auto manufacturer and set an example for his children that “you can do anything you set your mind to as long as you are dedicated, work hard and follow through.” |

Brandie is seeking her education to work in a job she enjoys and provide for her child. A single mother, Brandie is determined to be a good role model for her daughter by being strong, smart, successful, and happy in her work. |

Karen is a returning student who has found her way through great personal loss to personal inspiration through the Women in Transitions Program. Her goals are to earn a degree in Computer User Support at Lane, and to use her own experiences with the importance of computer literacy in the workplace to learn all about computers and help others use application software. |

Eldon Tobiasson
P-T, Diesel Technology
Eldon realized the value of studying Diesel Technology when he worked in the excavation business and did not know how to maintain the equipment. His interest in the diesel field has grown since he’s been at Lane – his goal is now to get a B.A. in Diesel Technology. Besides going to school, he works swing shift maintaining a fleet of equipment; he and his wife have a baby boy. |

In 1999, Teodora moved here from Mexico to learn English. Now she is well on her way to a B.A. in tourism and travel marketing, which she hopes to earn at the University of Oregon. Her instructors at Lane say, “She inspires others to become better than they think they could be.” |

Jeanine enrolled in the Women In Transition program in 1997 and came away with a will to succeed. A single mother who escaped an abusive relationship, she now seeks a career to become self-sufficient to provide for her family. Her goal is to own her own garage, a business that will be known for it’s integrity, quality, and efficiency. |
