Typing Test Information

The Business Department offers free placement tests to assist students in determining their skill levels. Students who are unable to meet the minimum requirements should consider completing BT 010 Computer Keyboarding and/or BT 020 10-Key Calculators before enrolling in MS Word or Excel.

Additional Information about taking the typing test at Lane will be available soon.  For now contact Henry Gazo (gazoh@lanecc.edu) or Rhonda Rice (ricer@lanecc.edu) to schedule a typing test.

PROCTORED TESTING INFORMATION

Proctored testing is an option available for students who live out of the Lane County area.  If you live at a distance and your location prohibits you from taking your placement test(s) on campus or at an LCC outreach center, you will need to find a test proctor.

A test proctor is the person responsible for administering your keyboarding and/or 10 key placement test(s).  A proctor is someone who is employed by a facility with experience in test proctoring.  You and your proctor will need to complete the Proctor Approval Form* and return it to us.

Proctors must be pre-approved.  A few suggested places to look for an acceptable proctor are:

  • Community colleges
  • Universities
  • Military bases
  • High Schools
  • Libraries

The proctor will need to provide a secure testing environment and computer with a numeric keypad and/or 10-key calculator.  Proctors may charge a fee for their service.  The student is responsible for any fees charged by the test proctor.

After submitting the completed Proctor Approval Form, we will contact the proctor to verify contact information and the security and appropriateness of the testing facility.  You will be notified if the proctor does not meet approval.  You only need to submit one Proctor Approval Form each term.

After your proctor has been approved:

  • Make an appointment to take the placement test(s)
  • Contact us to request to have the test materials sent to your proctor at least one week in advance of the test date.

You must present a valid picture ID to the proctor before taking the placement test(s).  Your proctor will be responsible for returning the completed test(s) to us.
