BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODELS

Hyland Construction extended the schedule and work continues to complete minor punch list items remaining on the Buildings 10 and 11 remodel projects. This week their crews have been scheduled to complete the installation of the Art Department kilns on the south side of Building 10. Delivery of some materials necessary to complete the installation is expected to arrive on Thursday Nov. 3. Once installation of the kilns is complete, crews will begin the process to install the kiln hoods and vent pipes that will be routed above the roof of the building. The kiln hoods and vent pipe installation will take three weeks to complete.

Most items listed on the punch list for the inside of the building have been completed. Items remaining on the outside of the building are mainly painting and the weather has proven to be an issue when scheduling to complete this work.

Interior wayfinding signs for Building 10 are on order and installation of the signs is scheduled to begin the week of Nov. 14.

BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODELS

Hyland Construction and their trades will continue to complete painting and other interior items this week. Details have been completed on the location and design of the outdoor kilns, and part manufacturing has begun on the parts needed to complete the installation. With having a late start on this part of the project the targeted completion date is the third week of November. Acoustical work inside the building has started and will continue for another week. BUILDING 11 REMODEL 

This project is still in the completion phase in some areas of the building. Specialized Support Services has moved into their newly remodeled space. The Art Gallery and Art History classroom have been completed but there is some minor touch up work left to do. Hyland crews are finishing the touch up work and expect to have it completed by Wednesday, September 21. Contact Mark Richardson, 3456.

BUILDING 11 REMODEL

This building project is a result of three separate projects that are going together to occupy and function from Building 11. The first project will have Hyland Construction working on the new offices for the SSS team. Next, a new Art Gallery for student artwork displays will be assembled, the last part of the project is to renovate the Art-history classrooms and add two more classrooms on the north side of the building. Another part of the project is being completed by FMP trades on the second floor of the buildings. The project coordinator Heath, along with the other leads is working hard to complete this project by the start of the fall term. Contact Mark Richardson, 3456.

BUILDING 11 REMODEL

Several project tasks in and outside of Building 11 are going strong. Hyland Construction has completed the walls and painting at the new student support department offices, and the final step will be installing the new floor covering. The Art History classroom is close to being complete. After a final coat of paint and the concrete floor has been waxed, LCC staff can start installing the classroom furniture and electronics. Final touches inside the Art gallery are expected to be completed this week and final floor preparation will begin. This building is expected to be completed around September 16. BUILDING 11 REMODEL

The task of replacing the worn-out aged roof is almost complete. Umpqua Roofing and Smith’s Sheet Metal have teamed up to make sure this project is successful. On the first level, Hyland Construction has completed replacing some of the interior finishes and lighting fixtures. This project is expected to be completed the week of September 12. Buildings 10 and 11 will remain closed until the projects are complete. No access inside the fenced area is permitted, unless accompanied by a member of the bond staff. These rules are in place to ensure proper safety for everyone entering these buildings. For those interested in requesting a tour, please remember that safety equipment must be worn at all times. A limited quantity of safety equipment is available and will be provided by FMP, however, due to a limited number of hard hats on hand, Bond staff encourage those who can to bring their own hard hats for any scheduled tour. BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODEL

Bond moving crews and art department staff are moving equipment from Building 11 into the remodeled Building 10. This is a huge milestone for the project and the Advanced Technology and Art department as the completely remodeled building transforms into classroom spaces and more that will be ready for students this year. Transformation inside Building 11 is now picking up speed in all areas of the building. All interior walls in the new Specialized Support Services (SSS) area are finished and crews are now completing the final coat of interior paint. BUILDING 11 REMODEL

The Building 11 remodel is progressing as expected and is scheduled to be complete mid-September. Hyland construction has completed the first step of the electrical installation and crews are starting to construct walls inside the area to be occupied by the Specialized Support Services program. Umpqua Roofing and their subcontractors are installing a steel roofing system similar to that which was installed onto Building 4. The new roofing system has better moisture barrier and insulation layers that help provide a more comfortable environment inside the building. BUILDING 11 REMODEL
Building 11 projects have been proven to be a challenge for bond staff and contractors who are involved. Surprises are being uncovered by construction crews in several locations related to the design and age of this building. Unforeseen conditions have caused work to lag behind a little, but will not affect the expected completion date of mid-September. Removal of the old roof is completed and the installation of the new metal roof has begun. The roof contractor is working ahead of schedule and expects to be completed by the end of August. BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODELS

Buildings 10 and 11 will remain closed until the construction projects are complete. Unless accompanied by a member of the bond staff, no access inside the fenced area is permitted. Access modification into the campus on the South side of Building 10 is nearly complete. The steep ramp area is closed and a new ADA access ramp has opened. New steps are being formed replacing the steep ramp. Between buildings 10 and 11, final concrete placement is complete. On Friday, July 15, sections of the north parking lot N will be closed and will reopen on Wednesday, July 20. This closure is needed to allow for crane access to the project site. On Monday, July 18, the crane will begin lifting large pieces of equipment and placing them on the roof of Building 10. Contact Mark Richardson, 3456.

BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODELS 

Wallboard installation continues in Building 10 on both levels and is scheduled to be complete June 10. Painting crews are also on site working to complete the inside of the building. With the spring term ending soon, many construction projects will begin, including Building 11, which will have restricted access for construction beginning June 13. Building 11 will be undergoing a transformation to upgrade carpets and interior spaces. Along with the interior upgrades, the old worn out roof will be removed and replaced with a new metal roof that will give the building a new look. The new southwest ramp addition to Building 10 will be completed in a couple of weeks and open to the public. This is an exciting transformation to the Building 10 courtyard and it provides additional ADA access for students and staff members to the center of campus. Contact Mark Richardson, 3456.

BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODELS

Construction crews are now focusing on completing the exterior glass to start drying the inside of the building. Interior walls of Building 10 are at focus to allow the painting contractor to begin work.  Demolition work of selected areas inside Building 11 is scheduled to start on June 13. During such time, for crews working in and around Building 11, the entire building will be closed until the start of the fall term. Some of the highlights of Building 11 will be remodeling the first floor of the building and replacing the old worn out roof. The old wood canopy will be removed, and the area will be set up to build a skylight in the future.

BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODEL

This project is progressing quickly with a completion date of mid-September 2011. Hyland Construction has several trade teams working on both levels of the building to complete the mechanical and electrical work inside the walls before the final wall structure starts this week. On the exterior of the building, Lane and Lease Crutcher Lewis are progressing quickly to complete an improved campus entry between Buildings 10 and 12. This task involves building s a new concrete ramp and stairs. When completed this access area will provide a new and safe entry into the core of the campus for everyone. BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODEL

Interior wall construction is moving quickly and expected to be completed by Friday. Wallboard contractors are scheduled to resume their schedule this week and will be ongoing until the task is complete. Mechanical and electrical continues to go forward, completing much of the initial installation for the second level of the building. Exterior construction has started in several areas on the outside of the building and will continue as the weather permits. Contact Mark Richardson, 3456.

BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODEL

Hyland Construction started installing the aluminum frames on the exterior of Building 10 where glass will be installed. This is the first step in enclosing the building which will allow activities like wallboard and painting to begin soon. Demolition and excavation will start on the south side of Building 10 allowing crews to begin work on the new ramp. Building 11 is undergoing some renovations this summer. Proposals have been received by Lane staff to replace the worn out roof on Building 11 with a new metal roof as was installed on Building 4. This work is expected to start on June 15. During installation of the new roof, the area around Building 11 will be closed and building access will be limited to staff and construction employees only. Contact Mark Richardson, 3456.

BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODEL

Most of the interior walls in Building 10 are framed and ready for the next phase. Structural steel on the interior and exterior of the building is complete and ready for final coatings. Placement of concrete walkways on the west side of Building 10 will continue on Wednesday, April 27. In addition, two new construction activities begin this week. Lane has hired another contractor to complete the placement of the new access ramp on the south side of building 10, and bond project employees are moving the trash compactor to a new location. These projects will cause considerable noise at times, and foot traffic between buildings 10 and 12 will be detoured to parking lots through alternate routes. Contact Mark Richardson, 3456.

 

April 12, 2011
BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODEL
Construction work on the inside of Building 10 is scheduled to continue and will be increasing. Crews are installing large duct work and roof supports for the new HVAC equipment. Interior wall construction began last week and is expected to continue throughout the remainder of the project. During activities such as this, odd smells and loud noises throughout the day are expected. A separate project to relocate the trash compactor is scheduled to start with-in the next two weeks. This will cause further traffic congestion on the east side of the Building 10 project. BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODEL

Concrete placements continue today, March 29. This is the last of the large concrete placement for this project. The grueling task of installing the HVAC ducts will start on Wednesday, March 30 and will continue throughout the remainder of the project. With this task brings frequent deliveries to the project, odd smells, and loud echoing noises; none of which is expected to be harmful or consistent throughout the day. Following installation of the HVAC ducts is steel wall framing. This work is expected to create the same smells and noises as encountered during the installation of the duct work. Equipment used for the installation of the wall framing is a powder operated nail gun used for setting nails in concrete. Loud popping noises are normal when using this equipment. BUILDINGS 10 AND 11 REMODEL

The four major concrete placements for the Building 10 project begin this week and are scheduled to be completed by Tuesday, March 29. All areas around Building 10 including between Buildings 9 and 10, 10 and 12, and the test cells will have large diesel equipment on location from 5 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday, March 21 and Tuesday, March 22. The open area between Buildings 10 and 12 will have restricted access at times and using an alternate access route to the center of campus is encouraged. The final concrete placement for the project is scheduled for 5 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 29. This final concrete placement will not block access to the campus, and will be contained inside the immediate construction area. Truck traffic is still expected to be heavy and caution will be encouraged when using the north parking lot. As a reminder, Hyland Construction will be working on the heating water lines, which means there will be no heat in buildings 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, and 30 starting 6 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23 through the day and possibly, to noon on Thursday, March 24. BOND UPDATE: BUILDINGS 10 & 11, RTEC, RECYCLE CENTER, ART & APPLIED DESIGN, AND SPECIALIZED SUPPORT SERVICES
The project remains in the schematic design phase and project managers continue cost estimating of the master plan. The master plan shows major renovation of building 10, as well as a moderate amount of renovation in building 11. Building 10 renovations include allocated space for the new RTEC program, a Recycling Center, and area for relocating the Art and Applied Design studio art programs from building 11. PROJECT 452 ELECTRICAL UPGRADES
Fifty-five old and obsolete panels were identified as requiring replacement. Panels have been replaced in several buildings on campus. The last campus building in which panels were replaced is building 11. Panels were replaced during winter break on December 21, 22, and 23. This project is now complete. Contact Dave Smith, 3433.

PROJECT 452 ELECTRICAL UPGRADES
Fifty-five old and obsolete electrical panels were identified as requiring replacement. Twenty of the panels have been replaced to date. The remaining 35 panels are in buildings 5, 11 and 12 and will be replaced later this year or next year. Contact Dave Smith, 463-3433.

PROJECT 451 UTILITY SUBMETERING
Completed meter installations this week: water meters for buildings 1, 2, and 5; electrical meters for buildings 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, and 27. Main building isolation valve replacements this week: domestic cold water in buildings 4, 5, and 6. In addition, eight water main valves were replaced. Contact Angela Fazio, 463-3428.

UTILITY SHUT DOWN SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 21, 22, AND 23, 2009
Electricity will be shut down in Building 11 on August 22 and 23. Contact Mark Richardson, 463-3426.

PROJECT 452 ELECTRICAL UPGRADES
LCC deferred maintenance electricians have been replacing up to 43 obsolete and unsafe electrical panels at the main campus. Work will continue to replace 30 additional panels in Buildings 4, 5, 11, and 12 in future weeks through the summer. 65% of the backbone conduit and control panel boxes are installed, buildings 9, 24, 12 (except for the paint booth), and 13. Panel upgrades are on hold for now due to class room schedules. Building 7 is complete, Building 4 is 75% complete. Buildings 11 and 5 are on order and we may change them out on August 22nd and 23rd. Departments effected by this work will be notified in advance in accordance with College policy.

PROJECT 449 ASBESTOS ABATEMENT
Pacific Environmental is scheduled to complete work in the last section of tunnel by July 28. Asbestos removal in the boiler room of building 11 is completed and work started Friday, July 17 in buildings 17, 15 and 12. Abatement crews are scheduled to start July 20 to remove the ceiling area around the old paint booth in building 12 to clear the path for installation of the new paint booth. LCC deferred maintenance electricians continue to replace up to 43 obsolete and unsafe electrical panels at the main campus including 30 additional panels in buildings 4, 5, 11, and 12 during the summer. Departments effected by this work will be notified in advance in accordance with college policy. The piping for the renewable energy project was insulated which concludes the first phase of the project. LCC Facilities staff will meet with Evergreen Engineering later this month to discuss the campus electrical systems one line verification and update, arc flash studies, and overcurrent coordination studies. Work will continue to replace 30 additional panels in Buildings 4, 5, 11, and 12 through the summer. Departments affected by this work will be notified in advance in accordance with college policy. Twin Rivers Plumbing contractors finished piping work last week in the tunnel system and in Building 7 for a renewable energy project. Evergreen Engineering has finished the Campus Electrical Systems one line verification and update, Arc Flash studies, and overcurrent coordination studies and submitted plans and recommendations. PROJECT 447 CARPET REPLACEMENT
Carpet has been ordered for a large numbers of rooms in buildings 11 and 12. The carpet order has suffered a minor set back due to a fire back East in a supply mill making it difficult to get all the carpet orders filled when promised. The offices and classrooms that are scheduled to receive new carpet will see some replacement starting at the end of July. Facilities will receive one order on June 25 and installation will be the following week. This shipment will cover the classrooms in building 12 and some other various locations.
