ABSE Class Descriptions

ABSE offers instruction in the following subjects:

  • Mathematics - Courses in basic math skills. Topics include math operations, fractions, decimals, percents, ratios, proportions, measurement, data analysis, metric units, square roots, exponents, introductory geometry and algebra.
  • Writing - Courses in English grammar will help students develop basic writing skills for use in employment or higher education. Sentence structure, organization of paragraphs, and essay writing skills will also be covered.
  • Reading Improvement - Courses in basic reading comprehension. Topics covered include main idea, context clues, drawing conclusions, cause and effect, predictions and outcomes, fact and opinions, charts, maps, and diagrams.
  • Employability - Courses include basic computer, reading, writing, and math skills for work. Workshops on employment-related topics.

If you are college-bound, please read about our College Preparation classes, and also about how we can help you to transition to credit classes.

If you're not working toward the GED or college, but you just want to learn or re-learn basic reading, writing, math, or employment skills, please read about our Adult Skill Development classes.
