Reading Together rides on the LTD Buses Reading Together inspired student artwork from Lane art instructor Kathleen Caprario's "Basic Design Fundamentals" is now displayed on many of the area's LTD buses. Caprario states, " In these somewhat perilous times for education and the humanities in particular, it is esssential that the arts and the college maintain a higher profile in the community." To learn more about the work, and to see some of the work itself, go to the Event Scrapbook page. Reading Together at Lane Preview Night Reading Together inspired student created art formed the eye-catching centerpiece of the Reading Together Project display at the February 7 Lane Preview Night, attended by over 1,300 high school students and parents. Situated next to displays of Service Learning and Learning Communities, these three projects introduced prospective Lane students to the innovative, cross-discipline learning experiences available at Lane. Reading Together presents at the Oregon Student Success and Retention Conference In conjunction with Lane's Learning Communities Project Coordinator Anne McGrail and Lane's Strategic Learning Initiative Project Coordinator Eileen Thompson, Reading Together Coordinator Ellen Cantor presented Lane's learning centered, cross-discipline educational projects to conference attendees. The presentation emphasized the positive impact of a synthesis between co-curricular events and interdisciplinary curriculum on student retention and success, particularly when the themes involved critically impact our lives. Torch Features Reading Together Donor Jane King Lane's student run newspaper, The Torch, honored Jane King, founding Reading Together donor and active Reading Together Steering Committee member, in a feature article in their November 30, 2006 issue. The article describes Jane King's lifelong "love of education," and her particular enjoyment of interdisciplinary learning community classes, among the "more than a hundred credit hours" that she took at Lane in the years following her masters degree and teaching career. Reading Together was born from Jane King's desire to create a college wide interdisciplinary project in which "students at Lane [could] have the co-curricular enrichment that students at a 4 -year liberal arts college would get," according to project coordinator, Ellen Cantor, as quoted in The Torch article.
