Success Stories

Kevin Alltucker

picture of Kevin AlltuckerToday, engineer Kevin Alltucker is an advocate for at-risk children and families. His career began at Lane Community College where he enrolled in 1978, transferring two years later to Oregon State University for a degree in construction engineering. Kevin began working in the construction industry on large-scale international projects and later added advocacy for children to his life’s mission.

After several years abroad, Kevin returned to Eugene where he began working for the family business, Eugene Sand & Gravel. In 1992 he began volunteering for the Relief Nursery. Shocked by the realities faced by at risk children and their families, he soon realized that volunteering was not enough for him; his life's work would be dedicated to helping these children and promoting reforms. He returned to school, focusing on graduate work in child welfare and the prevention of youth violence.

In 2004 Kevin earned his doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Oregon. Today he is the author of numerous publications addressing the need for reforms in education and child welfare. As an assistant professor in the College of Education's Family and Human Services program, he teaches courses that focus on family systems and especially the prevention of youth violence. By teaching the next generation of child and youth advocates Kevin is ensuring that his influence will last beyond his lifetime.

Kevin has given much of his time to support local agencies in their efforts to better the lives of children in our community. He has worked with United Way’s Success by 6 Initiative, the Relief Nursery, CASA, Kids First, Head Start and EC CARES to name a few. He also appears frequently as a keynote speaker at national conferences addressing education and child welfare.

Many of the students in Kevin’s classes, like him, got their start at Lane. He says, "Lane gave me a solid base for my continuing education and professional career. Lane students coming to the university are consistently well prepared for our program."
