Spring term Faculty Recognition Awards were presented to sculpture instructor Lee Imonen and Transitions to Success instructor Cara DiMarco in surprise presentations last week. The awards are based on nominations from students, staff, faculty and alumni.

Some comments from Lee’s students:

“Lee is a fantastic instructor who always goes above and beyond for his students.  He is always friendly and helpful, and he is knowledgeable in all his subjects.”

“I just finished my third term at Lane; this is my first time back to school in 30 years. I was scared to death my first day, after spending 3 hours in Lee's drawing class, he made me feel like there was nothing I couldn't do. I have never had a teacher give so much of himself. I truly wish that all the teachers at Lane were just half as awesome as Lee Imonem. He makes you want to learn and do your best. He picks no favorites and treats everyone equally.  He is truly the best of the best!”

“Lee is one of the hardest working teachers I've ever seen (at Lane or any other school). Whenever I'm over by the art building I see him working on something or answering question from students needing help with work of their own. During my time involved in the pond sculpture project Lee has been a tremendous source of instruction and inspiration for my fellow students and me. Instead of simply going the extra mile Lee goes the extra acre.  His sculptures around campus are a constant source of contemplative beauty and his efforts to enable students here at Lane to feel the same sense of achievement at having ones work on display for all to see is nothing short of awe.”

“Lee is an artists’ artist. As an instructor he instills a deep sense of commitment to the learning of skills, creative research and process, critiques, and outcomes of student's art projects. He is tireless in providing technical expertise, artistic concepts and historical references to art making. Indeed, Lee has not only helped students strive for higher goals but works to inspire a strong work ethic... so important to producing fine art for personal enjoyment, cultural inspiration, and for the uniqueness of gallery installation as well as for reproduction. He brings out the best qualities in his own students, in the students of other classes and their studio interaction. Please consider acknowledging him for the many positive hours he dedicates to Lane students and the artistic community.”

Some comments from Cara’s students:

“I feel better prepared for my education at Lane from taking transitions with Cara. She's real, honest, caring, understanding and inspiring. She's a great teacher and I am better for my experience in her class.”

“Cara has been the most inspiring teacher I have ever had. She is incredibly helpful and she really puts her heart into everything she does. I feel privileged to have had her as an instructor.”

“I am starting my college education at 51 years of age, so needless to say it was very frightening having been out of the loop for so long. I was so lucky to have Cara for my teacher in my first term because she makes everything seem so much easier by building our self-esteem.  She makes me feel that I can do anything I want to accomplish! I wish that every student were lucky enough to have an instructor as funny, interesting and nice to get them jazzed about school like she does. She really deserves this award, I hope she gets it!”
