Susan Reddoor |
SUSAN REDDOOR received her award in a surprise visit on March 13 to her College Reading Skills class. She teaches academic learning skills at Lane. Comments from the nominations included:
"Until I attended Susan’s class, I hated to read. At the age of 46, I was not able to tell you of even a book I had read in my entire life. During one of our literary circles, Susan challenged me to be the artful adventurer, and due to her challenge, I wrote a poem that is being entered into the spring competition here at LCC, and the annual competition with poetry.com where I am a finalist. I thank Susan for her great attitude and encouragement."
“She is just wonderful and I feel that if more teachers were like her then kids at any age would enjoy school a whole lot more.”
Susan holds bachelor of arts in English and a master of arts in education from the University of California at Riverside.

Katie Swett |
KATIE SWETT, nursing instructor in Health Professions, received her award at a March 16 department staff meeting. Her nominators wrote:
“Katie has worked diligently this year as our first-ever nursing department simulation coordinator to advance the complexity and realistic nature of the nursing student’s simulation experience.”
“She is bursting with creative ideas! She developed an innovative lab schedule for students, which allows for smaller clinical groups that require more individualized instruction from first-year instructors. She has worked with second-year faculty teams to encourage the development of strategies that allow faculty to work smarter, not harder with our transition to the Oregon Consortium of Nursing Education’s statewide curriculum.
“Katie encourages faculty to think outside the box. Sometimes so outside the box that we actually lose sight of the box and all of its preconceived restrictions!”
Katie is a registered nurse. She has taught at Lane since 1993. She has a bachelor of science from the University of Iowa and a master of science in nursing from OHSU.

Tim Blood |
TIM BLOOD received his award on March 18 in the Counseling lobby. Tim provides counseling and advising for arts division majors and he teaches Human Relations at Work. Here’s what students wrote:
“I am 47 years old and just started classes this fall. I wasn’t sure I could do this--go back to school--since it has been years since I had done any schoolwork. My confidence was low. I had Tim as my teacher in Human Relations and if it wasn’t for Tim and his class I would have given up.”
“ Tim is very caring of his students and turned my whole outlook around.”
“I am doing very well in all my classes and it’s all thanks to Tim Blood. He helped me through the rough days. Thank you Tim.”
Tim has been at Lane since 1974. He has a bachelor of science in psychology from Albion College and a master of science in Counseling from the University of Oregon.
