Oregon consortium grant brings $1.7 million to LCC for job training
EUGENE, OR - Lane Community College will receive $1.7 million from a three-year Department of Labor grant for job training for unemployed and under-employed workers and those eligible for Trade Act Adjustment benefits.
Lane will use the funds to help eligible students to complete a degree or certificate program, and will expand career pathways certificate options in emerging industries and occupations. The grant also will allow the college to add career coaches to enhance student services and increase ways to award credit for prior learning. Dawn DeWolf, division dean of Workforce Development at Lane, will direct the program. Services are expected to begin in spring 2012.
"We will train more than 350 students for high demand jobs in aviation, computer information technology, health professions, and advanced technology careers," she said. "Career advisors will help ensure that participants complete a credential or degree and find a job to meet industry demand."
The funds are part of a three-year, $18.7 million grant awarded in September to the Oregon CASE Consortium through the Trade Adjustment Assistance for Community College and Career Training grant program of the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Education. CASE is an acronym for Credentials, Acceleration, and Support for Employment. The consortium includes all of Oregon's 17 community colleges.
