LCC women's soccer tackles breast cancer as well as Clark College at Oct. 26 Pink Out game

EUGENE, OR - The Lane Community College Women Titans soccer team will fight breast cancer as well as the Clark College Penguins on Wednesday, Oct. 26, in its Second Annual Pink Out home game at Lane main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene, beginning at 6 p.m.

The Titans will give away free, commemorative pink T-shirts to the first 200 spectators, to help raise awareness about breast cancer. The American Cancer Society will be on hand to provide breast cancer information, including special half-time speakers, and to accept donations.

The Titans started the Pink Out game in observance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness month.

"We wanted to do this because we’re women, and as athletes, we have to look out for our health," says student athlete Kiara McDonagh. "It's important that people be aware and get checked out, even if you don’t think you have cancer." She speaks from experience. A few years ago, her aunt passed away from cancer that started in the breast and spread to other areas. Other family members also have battled cancer. "If it runs in your family, get checked out early."

Athletic Director Greg Sheley says response was overwhelming last year. "There was a real outpouring of heartfelt emotion. Lots of people came up to me and talked about their personal experiences with cancer. People really want to do something to help prevent and treat this disease. Coming to the Pink Out game is a good way to show support, and of course, a great opportunity to see Lane's amazing women's soccer team."

McDonagh agrees. "We kind of got off to a rocky start this year but we're on a five-game winning streak now. We have fight in us. We like to win. It would be great to get a lot of people out for the game."

The team currently holds second place in the NWAACC Southern Region standings. This will be the last home game of the year. For more information go online at:
