LCC's High School Connections ranks in national top 10
EUGENE, OR - The High School Connections program at Lane Community College has been selected as one of the top 10 high-school-to-college transition programs in the nation and will be profiled in a book published by the Community College Survey of Student Engagement.
"We are honored to receive this outstanding recognition and we continue to strive for continuous improvement in meeting the needs of Oregon's high school students," said director Deron Fort. "We are committed to bridging the gap between high school and college."
High School Connections includes several specific programs at Lane: College Now, which awards high school and college credit for free college-level classes taught at high schools; RTEC career and technical courses offered at the college or in high schools; Expanded Options for qualifying students to take courses at the college or online to complete their high school diploma; individual partnerships with various high schools; and a GED program for students who did not graduate from high school but want to earn a high school equivalency certificate.
Lane collaborates with more than 30 high schools in 23 school districts. Last year, High School Connections served more than 5,000 high school students.
CCSSE is a research and service initiative of the Community College Leadership Program in the Department of Educational Administration at the College of Education, University of Texas-Austin. Established in 2001, it is supported by the Houston Endowment, the Lumina Foundation for Education, the MetLife Foundation, and The Pew Charitable Trusts. The survey is an assessment tool that provides information on student engagement, a key indicator of learning and, thus, of the quality of community colleges.
