Zimride helping with LCC commute
EUGENE, OR - The commuting and parking crush at Lane Community College main campus is getting some relief from Zimride, a new rideshare service online at www.zimride.lanecc.edu.
Announced to students and employees late last week, the site already has 564 users with 307 rides arranged.
"Zimride lets students, faculty and staff safely arrange rides to campus. With so many drivers searching for parking spots, every rideshare makes a difference," said Helen Garrett, Executive Dean of Student Affairs.
Users sign up through their e-mail address or Facebook and can review each other's profiles before deciding to share a ride. Lane's student government initiated the idea and the college endorsed it in alignment with its commitment to sustainability.
Tips for commuters—
- Travel early and watch for congestion on I-5 at exit 189. Repaving is complete at 30th and Hilyard and the intersection is back to normal.
- Take the bus. Main campus and Downtown Center credit students and ESL students qualify for the LCC Bus Pass funded by a $27 student transportation fee. Information is online at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/facilities/transportation/lccbuspass.html The best times to catch the bus from downtown Eugene are 0:10, 0:20, and 0:50 after the hour; the fullest buses are 0:30 and 0:40 after the hour. The downtown Springfield bus station has extra capacity and plenty of parking, and LTD Park-N-Ride locations are available all over Lane County. Information is online at www.ltd.org

- Watch for pedestrians at the four smoking shelters in Parking Lots B, L, M and N.
- Avoid peak parking hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. if possible.
- Parking Lot N above the baseball field is always the last to fill.
- Extra spots have been marked on the grass next to the gravel lot at the northeast corner of campus.
- Don't park on Gonyea Road or Eldon Schaefer Drive, the entrances to main campus. Doing so can result in a citation from the Lane County Sheriff's office.
- Don’t park in fire lanes, painted red. Violators will be ticketed.
- Observe and obey all traffic, construction and directional signs. Avoid parking on roadways, in aisles, or on landscaping where it is illegal and unsafe to park.
