parking lot fullLCC main campus commuting and parking tips—classes start Sept. 26

EUGENE, OR—The commute to Lane Community College main campus will be congested and parking will be tight the first few weeks of fall term. Classes begin September 26. Here are some tips for commuters:

Commuting—

  • Travel early and watch for congestion on I-5 at exit 189. Repaving is complete at 30th and Hilyard and the intersection is back to normal.
  • Take the bus. Main campus and Downtown Center credit students and ESL students qualify for the LCC Bus Pass funded by a $27 student transportation fee (online-only students do not qualify). Information is online at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/facilities/transportation/lccbuspass.html The best times to catch the bus from downtown Eugene are 0:10, 0:20, and 0:50 after the hour; the fullest buses are 0:30 and 0:40 after the hour. The downtown Springfield bus station has extra capacity and plenty of parking, and LTD Park-N-Ride locations are available all over Lane County. Information is online at www.ltd.org
  • Rideshare through Zimride, a new service forLane students and employees online at www.zimride.lanecc.edu. Check out the how-to video at http://www.zimride.com/rideshare/video
  • Carpool through LTD's Point 2 Point Solutions service online at www.point2pointsolutions.org
  • Get a friend to drop you off and pick you up.
  • Ride your bike. Bike maps and information are online at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/facilities/transportation

Parking—

  • Avoid peak parking hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. if possible.
  • Try Lot N above the baseball field on the northeast corner of campus. It's always the last to fill.
  • Ride your motorcycle. Lane added 50 slots last year that are underutilized, in Lot M on the east side of campus.
  • Watch for pedestrians at the four smoking shelters in Parking Lots B, L, M and N.  Lane became a tobacco-free campus last fall. See the map online at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/mpr/locations/mc.htm
  • Don't park on Gonyea Road or Eldon Schaefer Drive, the entrances to main campus. Doing so can result in a citation from the Lane County Sheriff's office.
  • Don’t park in fire lanes, painted red. Violators will be ticketed.
  • Observe and obey all traffic, construction and directional signs. Avoid parking on roadways, in aisles, or on landscaping where it is illegal and unsafe to park.

Lane is an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution. Visit online at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu or www.twitter.com/lanenews or www.facebook.com/lanecommunitycollege
