African American Rites of Passage graduates 25 students on July 15
EUGENE, OR - The African American Rites of Passage Summer Academy at Lane Community College will hold its 15th Capstone/Graduation Ceremonies on Friday, July 15, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Longhouse (Building 31) on main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene.
"The capstone ceremony celebrates the work, learning and achievement of these young women and men who have embraced the spirit of the African experience in America," says Greg Evans, founder and director of the acclaimed Rites of Passage program. This year's program has 25 graduates. "Everyone's encouraged to help us support these outstanding young scholars by attending the graduation," says Evans.
Rites of Passage addresses the cultural, career, academic and social needs of African American and multicultural students of African descent in grades 6 through 12 from throughout Lane County. The academy is designed to help students connect with the history, literature, traditions and folklore of the experience of African people in western civilization.
This year's program began June 27 and concludes July 15.
