"Shakespeare on Tap" at LCC June 4

EUGENE, OR - An array of scenes and monologues from William Shakespeare's plays will be presented at Lane Community College on Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. in the Blue Door Theater, Building 6, on the main campus. Admission is free. Donations are welcome, to support the continuing efforts of the Student Productions Association.

The enthusiasm for Shakespeare, nurtured at Lane, bubbles forth in several performances during the year. The actors in the Spring Term Shakespeare Showcase, performing more than 20 scenes and monologues, breathe new life into English spoken 450 years ago.

The student actors are joined on stage by several faculty members and guest artists from the community. Professional musician Janet Naylor and friends play live musical interludes.

Scenes and speeches range from the familiar to the more obscure, and include sonnets, songs, and the varied genres of Shakespeare's plays, from fantasy to realism, history, myth, romance, horror, and tragedy. Narrator Bill Woolum describes how each piece fits in the context of its larger story.

Director Judith "Sparky" Roberts says, "The program will appeal to Shakespeare-lovers and those who just want to sip of the Bard's heady brew. It can be intoxicating, and in some people, it leads to addiction. But no worries: We offer Shakespeare on tap several times a year."

Actor Joe Cronin, veteran of the Oregon and Utah Shakespeare Festivals, is the assistant acting coach.

Seating is open. Audience members must be 10 years or older to be admitted. For more information, call: 541-868-4545.
