Spring Inspirations Theater Productions Opens 15th Season at LCC

Celebrating their fifteenth year of Spring Inspirations, Lane Community College Theatre Arts presents ten one-act plays in the Blue Door Theater, written, directed, and acted by students, under the guidance of Lead Faculty Patrick Torelle.

The plays, which will be performed at 8 p.m. on May 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14, and at 2 on Sunday May 8, began their journey to the stage in Torelle’s Fall Writing for Theater class. Rewrites continued through the Winter and into the Spring rehearsals. "It's always a fantastic mix of the comedic, tragic, and bizarre," says Torelle. "The thing I love the most," he continues, "we have about fifty students who participate in one way or another. One of them has been here for all fifteen years." Each of the works has been carefully honed. "This is some of the most difficult kind of writing there is," explains Torelle, "The playwright has ten minutes or less to tell a coherent story with a strong beginning, middle and end, clever dialogue, compelling characters, and dynamic twists and turns."

The plays are mounted on a revolving stage, minimizing scene change time, and employs a projection screen to introduce and supplement the action. The plots range from a hilarious look at airport security to domestic abuse and the loss of a child. The use of guns, violence, and strong language may be too intense for the very young , but for everyone else, it promises to be a very entertaining evening.

Tickets can be had at the door for a suggested donation of three to five dollars.
