African American Rites of Passage program accepting applications
EUGENE, OR - The African American Rites of Passage Summer Academy at Lane Community College is currently accepting applications from students in grades 6 through 12. This summer's program will accept a limited number of students (25-30).
The application deadline is Friday, June 17. The program will run Mondays through Fridays from June 27-July 15.
The academy is designed to address the cultural, career, academic and social needs of high school and middle school African American and multicultural students of African descent in Lane County. The academy is crafted in an academic and cultural framework for the purpose of connecting these students with the history, literature, traditions and folklore of the experience of African people in western civilization.
The academy is in its 16th year. It was founded by Greg Evans. Lane added a Pan Asian American academy in 2001, and Umista Native American and Puertas Abiertas Latino/Latina academies in 2002.
