EUGENE, OR - Rosaria Haugland has been named one of four Outstanding Alumni Award recipients by the American Association of Community Colleges. AACC will present the awards at its 91st Annual Convention in New Orleans from April 9-12.

Born in Italy and one of six children, Haugland was the first in her family to graduate from college. She earned a doctorate in biology from the University of Milan and a doctorate in biochemistry from Syracuse University in New York.

She and her husband founded Molecular Probes in 1975. They participated in the Small Business Management Program at Lane Community College from 1983-86 and won the program's Business of the Year award in 2001. The company grew into a multimillion dollar business and was later sold to Invitrogen.

"We are so proud of Rosaria," said Dr. Mary Spilde, Lane president. "She has given so much to Lane. She inspires our students, especially women students. Her leadership on our Foundation board and our Opening Doors campaign has inspired many additional donors to make a difference in students' lives. We are touched by Rosaria's generosity and we're full of pride to claim her as one of our own."

Haugland is president of the Rosaria P. Haugland Foundation. She has served on the Lane Community College Foundation Board of Trustees since 2004 and is a member or the Foundation's Opening Doors campaign leadership team. Haugland received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Lane Community College in 2010, and a Benefactor Award from the national Council for Resource Development in 2008.

Lane Community College is an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution.
