Four positions on LCC board up for election

EUGENE, OR - Four of seven positions on the Lane Community College Board of Education are up for election on May 17. Terms are four-years from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2015. Candidates may file with Lane County Elections from February 5 to March 17.

The board has seven elected members from five specific zones and two at-large positions. Candidates for zoned positions must live within the zone. However, all voters in the district vote on all board positions. The district includes most of Lane County and parts of Benton, Douglas and Linn counties.

The open positions are:

  • Zone 2, North Eugene, Coburg, Harrisburg and Junction City
  • Zone 5, Central Eugene, south of Willamette River and east of City View Street
  • Position 6 At-Large, representing the entire district
  • Position 7 At-Large representing the entire district

Currently holding those positions are Tony McCown of Springfield, Zone 2. He was elected in May 2007 and recently moved from Eugene but is completing his term as per ORS 341.335. He is a campaign consultant. Pat Albright of Eugene, Zone 5, was elected in May 2007. He is a retired teacher. Roger Hall of Eugene, Position 6, was elected in March 1991 and re-elected in March 1995, March 1999, May 2003, and May 2007. He is a radiologist. Robert Ackerman of Eugene, Position 7, was elected in July 1965, re-elected in March 1969, elected again in July 1999, and again in May 2007. He is an attorney.

Also on the board are Sharon Stiles of Florence, retired EEO officer, Zone 1; Gary LeClair of Springfield, physician, Zone 3; and Susie Johnston of Pleasant Hill, conference planner, Zone 4. Those terms expire June 2013.
