Improvisational Dance at Lane Community College

The Chandelier Project, An Evening of Improvisational dance

What: Bonnie Simoa and leading contemporary dancers in an evening of improvisational dance.
Date: October 29 & 30, 2010
Time: 8:00pm
Place: Ragozzino Performance Hall Main Stage, Bldg 6, LCC main campus

Bonnie Simoa, Director of Dance at Lane Community College has brought together seven of the most talented local movers and shakers in contemporary dance for The Chandelier Project, An Evening of Improvisational dance. You will witness them at their creative best, exploring making something from nothing, right before your very eyes!

They don't know what they will be dancing, nor do they know what music or sounds will accompanying them. They are entering into the unknown, and inviting you to join them to ride this creative edge.

Christian Cherry, Music Director for Dance at the University of Oregon, tends to the dance with his "musical" choices in an almost almost wizard-like way...whether it be talking nonsense into a drum, or playing his heart stopping piano improvisations, his expert sensibilities unsurpassed. He is a master.

Dancers for the performance are Sarah Ebert, Brad Garner, Cynthia Gutierrez-Garner, Shannon Mockli, Sarah Nemecek and Bonnie Simoa.

As a group of movers, they blur the edges of dance, performance, and choreographic form. Each time they begin dancing together, the performers enter a process of playful exploration and inquiry into what it means to be human, a dancer, a music maker, an artist. "How do we make something from nothing? How can we fully attentive to each moment, and not be bound by the outcome? "

And to take it all one step further, lighting will be improvised with James McConkey, Technical Director at Lane Community College at the lighting board.
