Get the rap on Lane's tobacco-free policy on YouTube
EUGENE, OR – "Ya down with LCC?" asks a rap video posted to the Lane Community College YouTube site, Lane Tubers Café, on the college home page at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGVNZHD9g1A
The college goes tobacco-free on Sept. 27 after a year of planning and discussion by a tobacco-free task force and College Council, Lane's major college planning and policy body. Both groups include faculty, staff and administrators.
The goal is to make campus a healthier, safer place to learn and work. The college also hopes to reduce its annual $10,000 expense for cigarette litter collection and disposal.
All Lane locations will be tobacco free including Cottage Grove and Florence campuses. Lane is Oregon's fourth community college to go tobacco free, after Mount Hood, Portland and Oregon Coast.
To accommodate smokers at main campus, four shelters are being added to the west, north, east and south parking lots. Although this will displace eight parking spots, it will clear up several pedestrian plazas formerly reserved for smoking. Cessation resources for those who want to quit smoking are being provided, include main campus Health Clinic services and other resources.

Lane is an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution.
