Lanes Small Business Management Program Expanded to Meet Record Enrollment Demand

EUGENE, OR - Applications are now being accepted for the newly expanded Lane Community College Small Business Development Center's Small Business Management program (SBM), a comprehensive three-year program that gives business owners the perspective they need to make sound business decisions and the tools they need to put those decisions into action.

"Without this class my company would be half as effective as it has become." Teresa Flack, Baseline Equipment Company

The SBM program helps business owners bogged down with micromanagement and firefighting to clarify their goals, share experiences and knowledge, grow their businesses, and work smarter—not harder.

  • Monthly classroom sessions with the instructor and guest expert speakers provide valuable information and networking opportunities
  • Monthly on-on-one personal coaching sessions
  • Ongoing business analysis helps participants develop a plan for growth

"The instructor has an outstanding ability to help business owners…increase the success and profitability of their business." Dr. Liz Dickey, MSW, ND

The content covers key management topics such as marketing, financial, and operational issues in an informal, flexible setting that changes according to the participants’ needs.

In these classes, the business is the textbook. The group setting builds cohesiveness, and participants learn from each other.

A new group starts in the fall and space is limited. Current cost for the first year is $649. A Curriculum Completion Award is given participants after course completion.

There is open enrollment throughout the year. Participants are encouraged to apply early as the program, has sold out each of the last 12 years. To qualify, business owners must be for-profit, in business by the end of the year, actively involved in the business, and willing to commit time for monthly class meetings and coaching visits with the instructor.

"The Small Business Development Center has really opened our eyes to the need to step back and carefully analyze our small business, and has prompted us to put many new management systems in place for better operations. The experience has been motivating, educational, inspiring and very revealing of our short comings as business owners," says Renee Phelps, Speed Quest, Inc.

To apply, contact the Lane Community College Small Business Development Center, (541) 463-5255 or email the instructor at smithge@lanecc.edu. For information on other business advising, programs, workshops, and resources the SBDC offers, visit our website at www.lanesbdc.com.
