Lane Community College Presents Shakespeare Showcase
The tri-annual Shakespeare Showcase begins its eighteenth year at Lane Community College with a program of more than 20 scenes.
L.C.C. Theatre Arts and English Departments collaborate with the Student Productions Association to present two free performances Saturday, December 5, at 2:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M., in the Blue Door Theatre on the main campus.
Students unite with teachers and local actors, under the direction of instructor Judith Roberts, with additional coaching from veteran actors Patrick Torelle and Joe Cronin. Narration will be provided by , and live music by Janet Naylor and Linda Danielson.
The monologues and scenes are presented using the background of L.C.C.’s replica of the London Globe Theatre stage.
Selected pieces will be from Henry IV and V, Merry Wives of Windsor, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing, Julius Caesar, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Othello, Hamlet, The Tempest, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Cymbeline, and Richard III.
The program is the final project of the students of the Acting Shakespeare class. Other actors join in because of their passion for Shakespeare’s writing. Roberts says the program, which runs just under two hours, will appeal to “Shakespeare-lovers and those who just want to get their feet wet.”
