MARY SPILDE NAMED OSU FELLOW

Eugene, Ore. - Oregon State University double graduate and president of Lane Community College, Mary Spilde, has been named a 2009 OSU Alumni Fellow.
"Mary exemplifies the very highest goals of our College of Education" said Sam Stern, professor and dean of the OSU College of Education. "She is recognized as one of the very best community college leaders in the country. Mary serves as chair for the American Association of Community Colleges' board, co-chair of Oregon's Post-Secondary Quality Education Commission, and board member for the National Institute for Leadership Development and National Committee for Cooperative Education," said Stern. "It's an honor for us to be able to recognize Mary and the truly wonderful work that she does."
Spilde earned her doctorate in post-secondary education and a master's degree in adult education at OSU. She has a bachelor's degree in business and social systems and a law degree from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Spilde has led Lane Community College as its president since 2001. She held vice presidential positions in instruction and student services at Lane from 1995 to 2001. Before that she worked 15 years at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon, in a variety of leadership positions.
She has served on the boards of numerous local, state, regional and national organizations.
