LCC LESSON PLAN FOR FALL PARKING: TAKE THE BUS
EUGENE, OR - Students' first lesson at Lane Community College this fall will be how to avoid parking problems on main campus.
Enrollment grew 15.8 percent last year and is continuing to grow as the recession drives people back to college for job training and retraining, or to get the first two years of college at an affordable price.
No one can say just how many cars will head for campus when fall classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 29, but the college strongly advocates transportation alternatives like riding the bus and carpooling.
The college offers a bus pass for credit students and has added a temporary bus pass for employees this fall.
Lane has partnered with Eugene 4J schools to offer Civic Stadium parking on Willamette Street in Eugene as a park-and-ride location for Lane students and employees, from October 1 to December 31.
For those who must drive to main campus, parking lots have been restriped to accommodate more compact cars, and four new gravel lots have been added.
Here are study tips for commuters-
* Take the bus. LTD has added extra service to address overloads, but riders are encouraged to go early to avoid the busier trips. Details about the LCC Bus Pass for students are online at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/facilities/transportation/lccbuspass.html.
* Carpool. Register through LTD’s Point-to-Point service. Details are online at www.point2pointsolutions.org.
* Ride your bike. For information go online at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/facilities/transportation
* If you drive, arrive early to find a parking space. Consult the main campus map at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/mpr/locations/mc.htm
* Don't park on Gonyea Road or Eldon Schaefer Drive, the entrances to main campus. Doing so can result in a citation from the Lane County Sheriff's office.
Lane is an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution.
