LCC LESSON PLAN FOR FALL PARKING: TAKE THE BUS

overflow parking

EUGENE, OR- Students' first lesson at Lane Community College this fall will be how to avoid parking problems on main campus.

Enrollment grew 15.8 percent last year and growth is expected to continue as the recession drives people back to college for job training and retraining, or to get the first two years of college at an affordable price.

No one can say just how many cars will head for campus when fall classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 29, but the college strongly advocates transportation alternatives like riding the bus and carpooling. This supports Lane's sustainability value and helps reduce congestion.

The college is making improvements such as offering a temporary bus pass for employees (many credit students already qualify for a bus pass), restriping lots to increase compact spaces, adding some new gravel lots, and consolidating construction activity to reduce displacement. About 3,900 spots should be available. Last fall, 4,000 or more commuters sought parking, according to public safety staff.

Here are study tips for commuters-

Lane is an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution.
