LCC LAUNCHES SUCCESSFUL AGING INSTITUTE
WHAT: Lane Community Colleges launches the Successful Aging Institute
WHEN: Registration for fall classes begins September 10, 2009
WHERE: Lane Main Campus, Downtown Center, area senior centers, and senior living communities
BACKGROUND: The Successful Aging Institute is Lane's initiative for and about older adults, building on a 30-year sponsorship of the federal Senior Companion Program
The Successful Aging Institute will include:
- New classes for adults of all ages who want to age successfully;
- New hands-on exploratory courses on main campus, specifically created for mature adults and offered in collaboration with area senior centers. Topics include culinary arts, technology, theater, fitness, and many other areas;
- New staff training offerings for senior living communities and other senior-oriented businesses; and
- New workforce skill development for mature workers, with a focus on defining and achieving career goals.
MISSION: The Successful Aging Institute of Lane Community College provides lifelong learning opportunities for achieving dreams. Classes are open to adults of all ages, and especially focused on the educational needs of mature adults and those who nurture their success. At Lane, your quest for learning never ends!
CLASSES:
- Just For You: Boomers & Beyond Special Saturday Series, including:
- Northwest Cuisine: Delight any palate with the best of the Northwest
- Fun With Fitness: Thunder drumming, fitness circuits, and mind/body stretches
- Online Social Networking: Twitter, Blogs, Facebook, YouTube, and all
- Behind the Mask Theater: Shakespeare and other world literature comes to life
- Special Walking Tours and Fine Dining Lunches on Main Campus
- Learning About Ourselves and Others: Classes to increase self-understanding and improve well-being
- Expand Your World: Free preview presentations at three major senior centers
