EWEB EXTENDS GRANT FOR LCC ENERGY PROGRAM

Eugene, Ore. - The Eugene Water & Electric Board has renewed the Lane Community College energy management program education grant for five years beginning with $134,390 for 2009/10, with an annual 3 percent inflation adjustment for a total of $713,496.

EWEB has been an active participant and supporter of the LCC Energy Management Program since 1980. The direct grant from EWEB began in 1999 and currently supports an annual program budget of about $481,000.

The two-year degree program trains students for jobs in the residential and commercial energy auditing, renewable energy, and energy management fields. A new two-year water conservation technician degree was added to the program last year and a resource conservation management program will be added in 2009.

The energy management program has a 95 percent job placement rate, most in family-wage jobs with regional utilities, energy service companies, local and state government agencies, and other energy-related private companies. Currently, 130 students are enrolled in the program.

"EWEB and other local public utilities are fortunate to have the nation’s premier two-year training programs for energy management right here in Eugene," said John Femal, EWEB's education grants coordinator. "LCC's program has benefitted EWEB and many other local employers by preparing students for careers in the energy industry."

In addition to the program grant, EWEB offers two scholarships for energy program students. Applications are due August 2. Information is available online at http://eweb.org

Lane is an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution.
