Eugene, Ore. - The nine-month Sustainable Building Advisor Certificate course at Lane Community College graduated its first class this month and orientations are now being held for the next session that begins in October.

The class of six women and nine men learned how to create energy efficient, cost effective buildings that provide healthy working and living conditions. They studied climate responsive energy design, day-lighting, green materials, indoor environmental quality, and water conservation.

“This field is burgeoning,” says coordinator Roger Ebbage. “These men and women expanded their career skills and marketability by learning more about sustainability.”

The National Sustainable Building Advisor Program administers the course throughout the US and Canada, provided locally by the Northwest Energy Education Institute at Lane, and sponsored by the Eugene Water and Electric Board and Good Company. Graduates qualify to take a national exam for the Certified Sustainable Building Advisor, or CSBA, credential.

The program offers a variety of continuing education benefits. It is anticipated that the sustainable building advisor course will be approved as a prerequisite for LEED exam eligibility.

The next Sustainable Building Advisor course at Lane begins in October. Informational sessions will be held throughout the summer. For more information call (541) 463-3154 or go online at http://www.nweei.org/sba.html
