PEACE CONFERENCE REGISTRATION OPEN
May 29-30 event features David Solnit, Joel Magnuson, Good Sista, Bad Sista and emma's revolution

EUGENE - The Lane Peace Center second annual conference, "Peace & Collective Action: Connecting Hope to Change," will be held Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30. Registration and ticket purchase is open online at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/peacecenter/2009 conference/index.html

Friday's events are free for all students and scholarships are available for people of limited means.

Friday's schedule begins at 9 a.m. and includes David Solnit and emma's revolution at 10 a.m. and Joel Magnuson at 5 p.m., in the Center for Meeting and Learning, building 19, LCC main campus in Eugene, 4000 E. 30th Avenue.

Saturday’s schedule begins at 11 a.m. and includes Good Sista, Bad Sista at 1:45 p.m. and 5 p.m., and Solnit at 3:30 p.m., at Cozmic Pizza in downtown Eugene.

Sixteen additional writers, educators, performers, and activists also will present.

Solnit is a direct action, anti-capitalist, climate justice and anti-war organizer, writer and puppeteer. He works with Courage to Resist, supports GI resistance, and the Climate Justice Action Convergence fighting Chevron Oil Corporation. He edited "Globalize Liberation," co-wrote "Army of None" and the forthcoming "Battle of the Story of the Battle of Seattle" (AK Press 2008). Magnuson is an economist and author of "Mindful Economics: How the US Economy Works, Why It Matters, and How It Could be Different." He is leading a nonviolent movement based on economic re-localization with emphasis on building democratic, stable, and ecologically sound institutions. Good Sista, Bad Sista is the performance poet duo Walidah Imarisha and Turiya Autry who have been described as powerful, provocative, and political. emma’s revolution is the award winning music duo of Pat Humphries and Sandy O who have played with Pete Seger and Holly Near.

The conference serves educators, students, community members, and activists dedicated to building a peaceful society and nation.

General admission is $30 Friday only or $45 both days. Tickets may be purchased online at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/peacecenter/2009 conference/index.html or at the door.

The Lane Peace Center is founded on the understanding that peace is rooted in social, economic, political, racial and environmental justice.
