JOURNALIST REESE ERLICH TO COMMENT ON OBAMA FOREIGN POLICY IN CUBA AND THE MIDDLE EAST

Eugene, Ore. - The Lane Peace Center, in co-sponsorship with Speakers and Performers Clearinghouse, the Associated Students of Lane Community College, and Community Alliance of Lane County, is proud to bring veteran journalist Reese Erlich to Lane Community College and Eugene on Thursday and Saturday, April 23 and 25.

With 40 years of first-hand reporting from the Middle East and Cuba, Erlich is especially well qualified to analyze the impact of President Obama’s foreign policy in both areas of the world. Erlich is the author of “The Iran Agenda: The Real Story of U.S. Policy and the Middle East Crisis” and co-author of the best-selling “Target Iraq: What the News Media Didn’t Tell You.” He reports regularly for National Public Radio, Latino USA, Radio Deutche Welle, Australian Broadcasting Corp. Radio, and Canadian Broadcasting Corp. Radio. He also writes for the San Francisco Chronicle, St. Petersburg Times, and Dallas Morning News.

Before returning to his duties as an international reporter, Erlich will make a six-city tour of Oregon, during which he will also talk about his newest book, “Dateline Havana.” He explores the historic U.S. domination of Cuba and the power of the Cuba lobby. He offers trenchant observations about Cuba’s political and economic system 50 years after its historic revolution. Erlich will analyze the prospects for change in both U.S. and Cuban policy under the new administrations of Barak Obama and Raul Castro. Former CBS anchor Walter Cronkite says, “’Dateline Havana’ is a must read for anyone interested in understanding the problems and seeing change in U.S. Cuba policy.”

President Barack Obama recently returned from the Summit of Americas where he met with leaders of Latin America. The Summit still excludes Cuba based upon United States policy.
