LEARNING GARDEN STUDENTS INVITE YOU TO CELEBRATE EARTH DAY

Eugene, Ore. - The Lane Community College Learning Garden Club invites the public to celebrate Earth Day at the Lane Learning Garden on Wednesday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The garden is located behind the childcare complex (buildings 24-27) on main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene.

Garden founder and student Brendan Lynch will give a presentation about the garden at 11:30 a.m. At 12-noon there will be a potluck lunch featuring fresh salad from the garden and dishes made from last harvest's canned food. At 1 p.m., compost specialist and student Geo Bitgood will demonstrate composting. Cake and music will follow at 2 p.m.

Lane’s Learning Garden provides opportunities for students to gain practical, hands-on experiences in sustainable, local food production. Produce from the garden is used in Lane’s cafeteria and culinary arts classes. The garden club is coordinated by the college Sustainability Office which works to promote all aspects of sustainability at Lane including developing and implementing policies and procedures, compliance with the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, and improving sustainability in learning opportunities.
