TRAINING & COMMUNITY RESOURCES EXPO
Laid off workers can explore new career opportunities and learn about community resources
Eugene, Oregon, April 9, 2009 - The economic crisis has affected everyone in our community. The unemployment rate is the highest in years. Every day people are being laid off and need information to help them during their transition.
Responding to our community's immediate need, Lane Community College and Lane Workforce Partnership, in collaboration with the Employment Department and United Way, is sponsoring a Training and Community Resources Expo.
The Training and Community Resources Expo will be held on Thursday, April 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Center for Meeting and Learning at Lane Community College, 4000 East 30th Avenue, Eugene.
"This event is about community outreach and meeting the needs of laid off workers. Over 50 educational and vocational institutions will be participating, as well as, community resources organizations," said Sonya Christian, Vice President Academic & Student Affairs, Lane Community College.
The purpose of the Expo is to help laid off workers explore career options, training opportunities, and find out about community resources. Represented at the Expo will be Lane Community College training programs (Health Professions; Computer Information Tech; Advanced Technical Program; Engineering/Energy Management and others). Pioneer Pacific; Northwest Christian University; Linfield College; IITR Truck Driving School, and other vocational programs/organizations. Worksource Lane (an initiative of the Lane Workforce Partnership) will have information on training scholarships and on a wide variety of services available to laid off workers, as well as, anyone looking for a first, new, or better job.
Community resources organizations participating in the Expo include the Employment Department, United Way, Catholic Community Services, Goodwill, Department of Human Services, Social Security Administration, Oregon Community Credit Union, and others.
