DOCUMENTARY FILM MAKER RICK ROWLEY BRINGS "BEYOND THE WALLS" TO LCC APRIL 2
Eugene - The Lane Peace Center, in co-sponsorship with the University of Oregon Multicultural Center, Associated Students of Lane Community College, and Community Alliance of Lane County, are proud to bring award-winning documentary filmmaker Rick Rowley to Eugene for two showings of his “Beyond the Walls” film tour. Among his films are, “This Is What Democracy Looks Like,” “The Fourth World War,” “Winter Soldier” (2008), and “The Jena 6” (2008). Rowley’s work has appeared on CNN, BBC, PBS, Democracy Now!, Al Jazeera International, and many other media.
There will be two free presentations on Thursday, April 2. The first will be from 1-3 p.m. at Lane Community College main campus, building 17, room 309. The second will be from 7-9 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1376 Olive St., Eugene.
The program involves discussion and three short films on United States involvement in Iraq. The films are: “Beyond the Wall: Inside the Sadr Movement in Iraq” (2008); “Re-awakening Saddam’s Tribal Strategy” (2009); and the “Detention Imperative” (2009).
This is a rare opportunity to see the films and discuss them with world-class documentary maker Rick Rowley. The films and discussion give a window into the reality of US involvement in Iraq unfiltered by mainstream news.
