LCC BOARD HAS OPENINGS
EUGENE, OR - Three positions on the Lane Community College Board of Education are up for election on May 19. Election is to a four-year term from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2013. The board establishes policies that govern the college.
Candidates file with Lane County Elections from February 9 to March 19. Candidates must live in the zone they file for, but all voters in Lane’s district vote on all board positions. The district includes most of Lane County and parts of Benton, Douglas and Linn counties.
The board has a total of seven members elected from five specific zones and two at-large positions serving staggered terms.
Positions up for election are:
- Zone 1, primarily western Lane County, including Florence
- Zone 3, primarily Springfield and Marcola area
- Zone 4, primarily eastern/southeastern Lane County

Currently serving in the Zone 1 position is Paul Holman of Florence. He was appointed in December 2002 to fill an unexpired term, elected in May 2003 to complete that term, and re-elected in May 2005. He is a real estate broker.
Currently serving in the Zone 3 position is Pat Riggs-Henson of Springfield. She was elected to her present term in May 2005. She previously served on the board from 1989 to 1998. She is a retired employment specialist.
Currently serving in the Zone 4 position is Susie Johnston of Pleasant Hill. She was elected in May 2005 and is board chair this year. She is a conference planner, a student at Lane, and chair of the Pleasant Hill School Board.
