PREPARE FOR PARKING CHALLENGE NEXT WEEK AT LCC

Eugene, Ore. - Parking at Lane Community College main campus will be congested next week as fall term classes begin.

"Parking will be most challenging between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.," says Dave Willis, facilities director. "It's likely there won't be enough parking during the first three days of classes." Conditions will return to normal as students learn their way around campus and adjust their schedules.

Located at 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene, main campus has 3,378 permanent parking spaces. Another 200 temporary spaces will be marked. As many as 5,000 vehicles have competed for parking the first few days of the term in previous years.

There will be staff to direct traffic, provide site maps, and answer questions and welcome students as they arrive.

"We strongly encourage everyone to get creative with carpooling and to ride the bus," says Willis.

Here are some tips to get to class on time:

  • Ride the bus. Most students qualify for a free LCC Bus Pass. See details at lanecc.edu/facilities/transportation/lccbuspass.html
  • Carpool. Find partners through LTD's Commuter Solutions website at www.ltd.org/cs/csindex.html or the Rideshare Alliance website at www.rideshare.us (use the code LCC).
  • Ride your bike.
  • If you drive, arrive a half-hour early to find a parking space.
  • Lot N above the baseball field is always the last to fill. See the map at lanecc.edu/mpr/locations/mc.htm
  • "Lot full" signs will be posted.
  • Don't park on the shoulders of Gonyea Road or Eldon Schaefer Drive, the entrances to campus. Doing so could result in an $81 parking ticket from the Lane County Sheriff's office.
  • Don't park in undesignated areas, including fire lanes or near fire hydrants marked with signs or yellow curbs; fresh dirt areas (these areas recently have been filled with Class A reconditioned sludge from the wastewater lagoons and are too soft to support vehicles); or unmarked lawns which may have underground sprinkler systems that could be damaged.

Lane is an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution.
