PURA FÉ BENEFIT CONCERT FOR LCC LONGHOUSE
Thursday, May 29, 8 p.m., McDonald Theater, downtown Eugene

A concert with Native American singer-songwriter Pura Fé Crescioni, accompanied by guitarist Danny Godinez, will be held to raise awareness and boost donations for the Lane Community College Longhouse on Thursday, May 29, at 8 p.m. at the McDonald Theater in downtown Eugene. A silent auction and artists’ reception will precede the performance beginning at 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by the LCC Longhouse Committee.

Tickets are $20 in advance from TicketsWest outlets at Safeway stores, at ticketswest.rdln.com, at the University of Oregon student union, and at the Hult Center; or $25 at the door.

Pura Fé is acclaimed for blending traditional native music and contemporary music. She has won a Nammy (Native American Music Award) for Best Female Artist, and a French Grammy for the Best World Album. Pura Fe' has appeared in several Broadway musicals, on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show, on the Late Show UK, and has studied and performed with the American Ballet Theatre. She founded the internationally known native women’s a cappella trio, Ulali.

Born in New York City, her Spanish name translates as “Pure Faith” and was given by her father who is a singer from Puerto Rico. She was raised by her mother and a family of female singers descended from the Tuscarora Indians who migrated from North Carolina to New York in the early 1900s.

The Lane Community College Longhouse will be a multi- use facility available to all students and community inclusive of all tribal families, educators and elders concerned with the educational success of their young people. It will provide classrooms and space for culturally appropriate classes and events. It will be a place where people of many cultures can gather to learn about each others' cultures through shared ceremonies and community led activities. It will also serve as a haven for Native American students who are experiencing the transition back and forth from their traditional cultures and the culture of higher education.

Those who cannot attend the concert but would like to make a donation to the Longhouse may contact the Lane Foundation at 463-5226 or go online to lanecc.edu/foundation.
