LANE TAKES NATIONAL FOURTH IN RECYCLEMAIA COMPETITION
EUGENE - Lane Community College placed fourth best in the nation in waste minimization in RecycleMania, a competition for colleges and universities sponsored by the National Recycling Coalition and the EPA.
Of 95 competitors in its category, Lane generated 26.6 pounds of cumulative waste per person over the 10-week competition. First-place North Lake College of Irving, Texas, generated 12.53 pounds and last-place Allegheny College of Meadville, Pennsylvania, generated 526.31 pounds. Lane is an emerging national leader in sustainability and has won five awards in the past two years including the Campus Sustainability Leadership Award from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, and the Outstanding College Recycling Program Award from the National Recycling Coalition.
