LCC CO-OP EMPLOYER NAMED TO NATIONAL HALL OF FAME

EUGENE - John Zemek, founder and director of Applied Scientific Instrumentation, Inc., of Eugene, has been inducted into the 2007-2008 Co-op Hall of Fame established by the National Commission for Cooperative Education (www.co-op.edu). He is one of 36 cooperative education graduates from universities and community colleges nationwide to receive the honor. He was nominated by Dr. Mary Spilde, president of Lane Community College.
This is the third cooperative education award Zemek has won. He was named Lane Community College Cooperative Education Employer of the Year, and Northwest Career Educators and Employers Association Employer of the Year, both in 2007.
Ten of the 15 employees at Applied Scientific Instrumentation, a maker of hardware and systems for microscope automation and imaging, are Lane Community College graduates. Each held cooperative education internships with ASI while enrolled as electronics technology students.
Zemek earned an associate degree from Lane in 1988 and has bachelor of science degrees in finance and business from the University of Oregon.
Zemek founded ASI in 1990. The company makes precision instrumentation products for microscope automation and imaging (www.asiimaging.com).
