Volunteers needed for National Make a Difference Day Oct. 27
Eugene, Ore. - The Service Learning project at Lane Community College seeks volunteers for National Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at these community locations:
- Food for Lane County gardens, 50 volunteers needed at each site
- Catholic Community Services in Springfield, 15 volunteers needed
- Whiteaker Community Dinners, 5 volunteers needed at this wheelchair accessible site
- BRING Recycling, 20 volunteers needed
Make A Difference Day is sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine and its newspapers. Participants include the AmeriCorps VISTA program. Service Learning at Lane provides opportunities for students to address community needs by performing service projects that are integrated within course curricula.
Penny Parks, a VISTA volunteer at Lane working with the Service Learning initiative, says one in three children in Lane County experience hunger and 76,000 Lane County residents live below the poverty level. To volunteer for Make a Difference Day contact her at parkspa@lanecc.edu or 463-5456.
