Business Development Center instructor helps small businesses

Gary E. Smith

EUGENE OR - Gary E. Smith has joined the Lane Community College Business Development Center to instruct and coach small business owners in focusing on their businesses. Smith is currently operating his sixth successful small business. He has experience in convention/meeting management, restaurant management, creative/entertainment production, travel/hospitality management, and additional small business operations with a focus on service-based businesses.

Smith brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Business Development Center that includes business plan writing, financial projections (cash flow, profit and loss, balance sheet), financial analysis, early stage business development and planning, goal setting, personnel issues, and basic sales and marketing. He has an MBA in business management and a BA in organizational leadership from Franklin University, holds a Six Sigma Green Belt process engineer certification, and has an Elite Cruise Counselor Scholar designation from the Cruise Line Industry Association.

Smith will teach the three-year Small Business Management program for existing business owners, the KEYS (Knowledge and Experience is Your Success) new program for early stage businesses, and Recipe for a Successful Restaurant workshop for improved leadership and highlighting processes that can reduce costs.
