LCC names 2007 Distinguished Alumni
EUGENE - The Lane Community College Foundation has named Lee Beyer of Springfield, Alison Donway of Vancouver, Wash., Dr. John Holtzapple of Eugene, and Cambra Ward of Eugene, as its 2007 Distinguished Alumni. The awards go to alumnus who completed at least 30 credit hours or earned an associate’s degree at Lane, and have demonstrated achievement in their chosen profession, service to the community, and outstanding contribution to the college.

Beyer studied journalism and political science at Lane from 1971-73. He went on to serve as a Springfield city councilor, Oregon state representative and senator, and today is chair of the Oregon Public Utility Commission. He volunteered more than 10 years on the college’s Professional and Technical Education Coordinating Committee and is active in several community organizations. | ||

Donway earned an associate of applied science in flight technology at Lane in 1997. She later taught in Lane’s program and helped acquire the donation of a flight simulator. She now manages Pilot Service for the 750 pilots at Horizon Air and is the company’s liaison with the Federal Aviation Administration. She volunteers with a women’s aviation organization and mentors young women in Portland Public Schools to pursue math, science and engineering. | ||

Dr. John Holtzapple earned an associates degree in nursing at Lane in 1983 and has been a family medical physician with PeaceHealth Medical Group for several years. He volunteers for a variety of community organizations including White Bird Clinic, the Latino Medical Access Coalition, and the Lane County Medical Society. | ||

Cambra Ward earned an associate of science in broadcast and visual design from Lane in 1984. She is vice president of Clear Channel Northwest Group and vice president and general manager of KMTR-TV in Springfield. She helped implement Oregon’s Amber Alert Plan through her work on the Oregon Association of Broadcasters board of directors and is an active volunteer in several community organizations. | ||
