Arts Initiative blends arts and science at Brattain elementary
EUGENE - Lane Community College and Springfield School District 9 present an arts and science integrated performance at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 at Brattain Elementary, 425 10th Street, Springfield. Part of the college’s Oregon Integrative Arts Initiative, the performance will focus on second and third graders in Kathy Reed’s classroom at Brattain Elementary working with Debi Noel, LCC dance instructor, and Rachael Carnes, founder of Sparkplug Dance.
Reed, Noel and Carnes employ dance and music in science education so that students can explore science concepts in an engaging way. In the performance, students will demonstrate their knowledge of science, music and movement.
Noel has taught elementary school music for almost 20 years. She also teaches music at Lane. Carnes trained at the Creative Dance Center in Seattle and has pursued graduate studies in child development, developmental psychology and dance movement therapy. She founded Sparkplug Dance.
